Zanu-PF purges continue

The Zanu-PF Mashonaland West youth league has allegedly passed a vote of no-confidence against its chairperson, Vengai Musengi, and two other provincial executive members for allegedly disrespecting President Robert Mugabe and First Lady Grace.
The move, which follows recommendations from the women's league to kick out Musengi and his team on allegations that they had been causing divisions within the party, was allegedly passed by 27 members, who accused the provincial youth league chairperson of fomenting factionalism among other political crimes.
Meanwhile, a Zanu-PF official, who was arrested by police at the weekend after allegedly axing to death two party colleagues, died early yesterday in mysterious circumstances, with police saying he committed suicide.
Proud Mupambwa, the vice-chairman of Zanu-PF's Ward 4B in Chitungwiza, police said, had of late "been exhibiting suicidal tendencies" and tried to "injure himself before he died".
In a statement yesterday, police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident, saying police had since launched a full-scale investigation into the matter.
