'There is no Zimbabwe govt to talk of'

OPPOSITION MDC leader Welshman Ncube has mocked ruling Zanu-PF party officials for devoting more attention and resources towards the succession issue instead of crafting strategies to rescue the free-falling economy.
Addressing his party's provincial chairpersons and secretaries from all 12 provinces at a meeting held in Bulawayo on Monday, Ncube said there was no government to speak of at the moment as Zanu-PF's unresolved succession issue and factionalism had diverted top officials' attention.
"Not only has factionalism deepened within Zanu-PF, it has gotten to such unmanageable levels. At least last year, there was pretence that there was a government doing something about governance issues, now there is no pretence," Ncube said.
"Everyone in Zanu-PF is concerned about where will I stand the day (President Robert) Mugabe is succeeded by whoever.
Meanwhile, the masses continue to suffer. There is no government to speak of currently."
He said the economy had spiralled back to the 2008 era and Zanu-PF was not paying attention to the matter.
"At their rallies, they don't talk about the economy, the suffering of the people, they don't talk about governance. They talk about wheelchairs for Mugabe, who is senior to who in Zanu-PF. And clearly we haven't seen the last of the purges, there will still be more."
