MDC-T Councillor Mxolisi Ndlovu of Ward 4 in Umguza Rural District Council in Matebeleland North province was today suspended from office by the council's chief executive on four misconduct or very vague charges. The councillor is the only public official who was voted into office in the district on an MDC ticket.
The four charges being levelled against Councillor Ndlovu are that at an unknown date, he unlawfully made contacts with District Development Fund officials and that on yet another unknown date he unlawfully conducted his own investigations with the mandate of the council.
The other two counts are that he conducted himself in a manner that raised a lot of concerns and suspicions with the fourth count being that Councillor Ndlovu wrote letters to various institutions, including the Provincial Administrator's office and the Local Government Permanent Secretary.
Councilor Ndlovu described the charges being brought against him as laughable as they did not capture any detailed allegations of crimes committed by him. He accused the council of being used by Local Government Minister, Ignatius Chombo to force him out office on trumped up charges.
