SENATOR Chief Chitanga of Masvingo recently embarrassed Zanu PF national chairman Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo in parliament that the people of Zimbabwe no longer needed Zanu PF and not the Global Political Agreement (GPA).

According to Volume 21, Number 2 of the Hansard dated 20 September 2011 - Moyo who had initially addressed the August House praising President Robert Mugabe for the speech he had made on September 6, 2011 and stated that Zimbabweans no longer need the GPA.

Said Moyo, "Mr President, hon senators, the Global Political Agreement has become an excruciating thorn in our body politic manly due to unwarranted external interference, particularly from the West.

"In all honesty the agreement has overstayed the hospitality of people of Zimbabwe. One cannot deny that since the formation of the inclusive government, the economy has stabilized to modest heights and peace has prevailed across the country, hence the assurance by His Excellency, President R.G Mugabe to investors that their investments are safe and urged them in his address to maintain compliance with the country's laws," said Moyo.

However Moyo's GPA dismissal did not go for well with Senator Chief Chitanga who rose to oppose his speech in a manner that shocked legislators from all political party formations, who hitherto had thought that all Chiefs are Zanu PF sympathizers.

The Chief replied in part:
"I come now to this issue of the GPA. The hon speaker did touch and commented that the GPA has overstayed its welcome.

"I think the only people who have overstayed their welcome is Zanu PF – they have overstayed their welcome to govern this country. The people of this country stopped wanting to be governed by Zanu PF years ago.

"When we preached change, we thought we are alone, but it looks like people on this side (he said pointing to the side sitting Zanu PF lawmakers) also want change –ngatibatanei tiunze," he said amid interjections from the noisy galley.
