President Mugabe faces tough choices next week when Zanu-PF's supreme decision making body, the politburo meets, amid infighting in his party.

Party infighting has intensified as people are jostling for positions in attempt to secure their positions post Mugabe. Zanu-PF has not been stable since the ouster of Joice Mujuru and her allies from the party in 2014.

A new factional group rivaling Mnangagwa's faction, called the G40 has risen to prominence amid the chaos and infighting and this has led to an escalation of party infighting.

The G40 is seen to be tactically more astute, and this has led the Mnangagwa faction to attempt to rope in President Mugabe to their side in order to come out on top.
