The Zanu PF Midlands provincial chairman Kizito Chivamba, who is also Gweru-Chiwundura legislator, has been suspended indefinitely for bringing the party into disrepute by peddling falsehoods in the media and for failing to protect members of the party who were harassed for attending a properly convened meeting at the party headquarters in Harare on Wednesday..

Zanu PF Midlands provincial secretary for administration, who is also the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Tapiwanashe Matangaidze has been appointed interim chairman.

Meanwhile, Zanu PF Midlands provincial leadership has refuted claims that they were people who were beaten up and blocked from attending a rally held at the party headquarters in Harare in solidarity with the President following his recent appointment as the African Union Rapporteur.

The party's provincial spokesperson Cornilous Mupereri issued a press statement soon after the provincial coordinating meeting saying reports that they were women who were beaten up and blocked from attending Wednesday's rally that was held at the party's HQ were not true.

He says the rally was communicated very late and not through party structures.

Zanu PF national secretary for education, who is also the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Joram Gumbo said investigations to ascertain what really transpired on the day are already underway and if they are any culprits they will be brought to book.

The Zanu PF women's league Midlands chairperson Ellinah Shirichena weighed in saying they would be pleased if one of the victims can testify that they were indeed beaten and cowed from  attending the meeting.

The response follows reports that some people were beaten up and barred from travelling to Harare for the rally addressed by President Mugabe on Wednesday.
