Warring Zanu-PF factions are sharpening their swords once again after weeks of low-key ructions as they ignore President Robert Mugabe's passionate appeals for them to unite and re-direct their energies towards securing another victory at the 2018 polls that are promising to have all the ingredients of a nail-biting encounter.

Last week, President Mugabe (92) ordered his jockeying lieutenants to stop congregating themselves into factions for purposes of wresting power from him under the false hope that he may retire from office now that he is in the twilight of his political career.

The Zanu-PF leader described the shenanigans as treasonous.

In Zimbabwe, treason-related crimes are punishable by death except if committed by a woman. The new Constitution enacted in 2013 exonerates women from capital punishment.
