The MDC-T failed yet again in a single week to prevent debate on the Local Government Laws Amendment Bill in parliament.
With the proclamation by Senate president Edna Madzongwe that the upper house had been summoned by President Robert Mugabe to debate the bill, MDC-T legislators went on the offensive demanding more time while their Zanu-PF counterparts contested the move.
The same scenario which played out in the lower house was witnessed again in the senate.
The house had to be divided and the Zanu-PF majority voice carried the day, thus giving way for a full debate on the Local Government Laws Amendment Bill.
Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Saviour Kasukuwere moved that all business in the senate be shelved off temporarily so the Local Government Laws Amendment Bill could be debated.
After the senate phase, the bill will now be sent to the President for assent.
President Mugabe has 21 days to sign the bill into law.
