MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu has said the rural votes are very important for the opposition political parties to be able to dislodge President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF in the coming 2018 elections

'The rural vote is critical for the opposition to win Election 2018.The Zanu PF dictatorship maintains a vice - like grip on the rural electorate ; mainly harvesting from the fear that was instilled in the rural electorate during the brutal and terrorist June 2008 Presidential election run - off," Gutu said.

"The Zanu PF dictatorship is also using,or rather, misusing, food relief as a tool to extract votes from the hungry and impoverished rural population ; the majority of whom are wholly dependent on food aid for their daily survival."

He said this is a clarion call to all opposition political parties to devise ways, means and strategies of untangling the Zanu PF regime's hold on the toiling and suffering masses who reside in impoverished rural communities.
