First Lady, Grace Mugabe, has said the women's assembly in the ruling Zanu PF had requested that the clause, scrapped in the run up to the 2014 congress, requiring one of the Vice Presidents to be woman, should be reinstated but they never said President Robert Mugabe should remove Emmerson Mnangagwa or Phelekezela Mphoko.
The female Vice President-post was scrapped when the party wanted to get rid of former Vice President Joice Mujuru to replace her with Mnangagwa.
As the factional fights escalate in the ruling party the G40 faction, led by Grace, is fighting to block Mnangagwa from taking over from Mugabe in case he retire or dies. It is why the reinstatement of the woman VP position is viewed as a ploy to oust Mnangagwa so as to kill his chance of succeeding Mugabe.
But Grace said the reinstatement of the female VP clause has nothing to do with the ousting of Mnangagwa but is a genuine cause to promote women in leadership.
