The late Cephas Msipa, a critic of President Robert Mugabe has been declared a national hero.
Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa made the announcement.
"Msipa served this country, fought for its independence, served Zanu PF.
"Even in his last days he spoke about our independence. He is a national hero" he told mourners at Msipa's Harare residence in a clip shown on ZBC late night bulletin.
Msipa passed on early Monday morning at West End Clinic in Harare.
Speculation was rife on social media that Msipa would be denied national heroes status.
Msipa had been critical of Mugabe's rule in recent times, urging him to retire.
Opposition parties mourned his passing saying he was a true son of the soil and a rare breed in Zanu PF.
