A political commentator Pedzisayi Ruhanya has said Zanu PF since its
purported victory in the 2013 elections has been affected by the
informalisation of the economy and de-industrialisation.
Ruhanya said the most fundamentally the changing political economy of the state under Zanu PF following its victory in 2013 especially how the urban and peri-urban people have been affected by the informalisation of the economy and the concomitant de-industrialisation.
"Legitimacy
through performance demands that Zanu PF loses particularly where a
strong, resourced candidate and a discerning electorate exist. Its just
one among many factors eg role of security apparatus, elite discohension
in both party and state," he said.
During the campaigns ahead of the 2013 elections the ruling Zanu PF promised the electorate a raft of measures to improve the economy such as the creation of 2,2 million jobs.
However this has been the opposite of what is currently happening on the ground as thousands of people have lost their jobs while the industries continued to close down due to biting economic crisis.
