Biti to address MDC Alliance rally

PDP President Tendai Biti will on Saturday the 2nd of September join other principals of the MDC Alliance at a rally set for White City Stadium.
The rally shall be the Alliance's official launch in Bulawayo following a successful launch held at the Zimbabwe grounds in Harare on the 5th of August 2017.
Biti was part of the leaders who addressed the rally; he told the gathering that the alliance was meant to restore the factory settings of the struggle machinery.
Members of the PDP Management Committee will accompany the President to the Bulawayo rally.
On the 25th of August 2017, the PDP leadership recommitted to the idea of national interest before an individual agenda. At a meeting held in Gweru, the PDP made a reaffirmation to the idea of unity, in an express resolution of commitment to the MDC Alliance.
On the 26th of April 2014 the General Council seated at Mandel resolved to initiate the idea of convergence. Subsequent General Councils and the Policy Conference of December 2016 confirmed this position.
At the inaugural convention held at the City Sports Centre on the 11th of September 2017, the People's Democratic Party reaffirmed that the crisis in Zimbabwe needs a new narrative which includes selfless sacrifice and thought leadership.
Noting that the multi-faceted crises were born out of a political crisis of legitimacy directly linked to the stolen election of 2013, the PDP resolved that electoral sustainability forms a foundation of the solution to the current crisis.
The party therefore proposed the idea of a broad coalition, a position articulated in Cannon C of the Agenda for Restoration and Rehabilitation of Electoral Sustainability (ARREST).
In line with this thought, the PDP entered into negotiations for an alliance with other actors in an arrangement known as the MDC Alliance.
The President is on record arguing that the idea of unity is non-negotiable, what the PDP would negotiate are the conditions of entry.
The PDP values thought leadership; President Biti is therefore obligated by section 10.1.1 of the party constitution to provide direction.
"The President is the leader and Chief Principal Officer of the Party and
ultimately accountable to the General Council and Convention for the vision, strategy, actions and omissions of the Party subject to this Constitution."
In line with this provision, he has consistently expressed his view that only a coalition against dictatorship gives Zimbabweans a fighting chance in the endeavour to liquidate the monster called ZANUPF.
The PDP is aware of the fact that liquidating ZANUPF is not a sufficient recipe for alleviating the plight of Zimbabweans but is a necessary mile stone; it is an opening of a new chapter in the struggle for real transformation.
Defeating ZANUPF is therefore an ingredient without a substitute, fighting the next election as a united force is a giant step in the right direction.
The President will therefore restate the need for all Zimbabweans to support the idea of unity. The Party is of the view that unity cannot be a source of division.
The Party is also aware that ZANU PF and its allies, a few who still pretend to have the interests of the people at heart will oppose, reject and denigrate the idea of unity as part of an ultimate solution to the political crisis. We expect this, but all this while we looked forward to even more the proposition by compatriots of a better plan than that of a broader coalition. The nation is aware that none has been put on the table thus far.
