NMG Benefits recently kick-started its annual Charity Challenge by participating in the 702 Sun International CEO SleepOut. In an effort to keep the fundraising momentum going, on 14 August 2015 Andrew Warren, the CEO of NMG Benefits and a few of his colleagues participated in a ‘Charity Run' in a bid to add to the funds already raised.
Andrew says: "I plan to use my time and my position as CEO, to raise even more money, and highlight the plight of Twilight Children in Hillbrow." This Charity Run will be a 17km run from Twilight Children's Home in Hillbrow, to the NMG Benefits' offices in Randburg. It forms part of the larger initiative, the NMG Charity Challenge where the company donates funds for every mile run, walked, cycled or swum by its employees over a three-month period.
All the funds raised under the ‘NMG Charity Challenge' banner will be put into the existing pool of funds to be donated to NMG Benefits' corporate social investment (CSI) projects that include:
- The Tembisa Child Welfare - which looks after abandoned, abused, neglected, lost, orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) who are disadvantaged by poverty, unemployment, alcoholism and broken homes to name but a few;
- Twilight Children's Home based in Hillbrow, is a Child and Youth Care Centre providing care, development and support to previously disadvantaged, more specifically street children in need of care and protection within the ages of eight and 18 years with the aim to restore their dignity; and
- Elundini, Home of the Disabled and Educare Centre, which aims to meet the physical and emotional needs of mentally and physically challenged children in the Du Noon, Tableview and Joe Slovo areas in Cape Town.
The NMG Charity Challenge which raised R940 000 in 2014, aims to break the million rand mark by the end of August 2015. Once again, all 700 NMG employees across the globe are busy participation by racking up miles in various activities similar to the race because the more miles; the bigger the donation.
NMG Benefits will, during August, also be hosting a Charity Golf Day to raise even more funds. Andrew says: "We want to go the extra mile and both these initiatives provide us with an opportunity to double our efforts for our charities."
Andrew is also challenging his social and professional networks to also play their part as responsible corporate citizens and rally behind these three causes to help double the amount that has already been raised.
"The participation of all NMG employees around the world is a re-affirmation of our commitment to making a difference in people's lives and we would like to share this philosophy with as many people as possible," he concludes.
