MATABELELAND South Zanu-PF provincial chairman, Rabelani Choeni, who was involved in an accident last week, has been discharged from Gwanda Provincial Hospital and is recovering at home in Beitbridge.
Choeni and four passengers escaped death after a vehicle they were travelling in burst a rear tyre before veering off the road and overturning once, leaving them with serious injuries.
The accident occurred last Wednesday at the 189 kilometre peg along the Beitbridge - Bulawayo Road just before West Nicholson when Choeni was on his way to Matopos National Park to identify the site for hosting the 21st February Movement Celebrations next month.
He was driving his official party Ford Everest vehicle and was coming from Beitbridge with four passengers he had given a lift.
Three passengers were treated and discharged while Choeni and an unidentified woman were hospitalised, the politician for four days and the other passenger for six days.
Choeni was discharged on Saturday while the woman was discharged yesterday.
The Zanu PF provincial leader could not be reached on his mobile phone to ascertain his condition.
Gwanda Provincial Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr Purgy Chimberengwa, yesterday confirmed that Choeni was out of danger and had been discharged.
"Yes they were involved in an accident on January 4 and we admitted two people. The chairman was discharged on Saturday while the woman was discharged on Monday. We detained the woman longer because she is pregnant so we wanted to be very sure about the condition of her pregnancy. However, both of them are stable," said Dr Chimberengwa.
