Mines and Mining Development minister and Zanu-PF politburo member Obert Mpofu on Sunday attacked party chairman Simon Khaya Moyo over the suspension of acting provincial chairperson Zwelitsha Masuku as the tiff between the two political heavy weights intensifies.
Speaking at a provincial meeting in Lupane that was attended by party commissar Webster Shamu, Mpofu said Moyo had crippled the province by suspending Masuku.
Moyo is accused of unilaterally suspending Masuku an ally of Mpofu as the battle by the two bigwigs for control for party structures take a nasty twist. Masuku was suspended last November for flouting party regulations but no disciplinary action has been taken against him yet.
"Commissar do not allow people to destroy the party no matter their positions. We do not entertain people who want to destroy our party," said Mpofu.
"We will resist who ever brings confusion to the province. We are cadres of the liberation struggle and the party and we will resist unconstitutional decisions. We disassociate ourselves with what happened but what we want is to elect a person wanted by the people.
Acting party chairperson Sithokozile Mathuthu said, "We have written a letter to the senior party office requesting to hold elections for the substantive provincial chairperson after the suspension of the then chairman. We have not received any response from head office."
