A group of women in Lupane has begun making eco-coffins in their quest to promote products that are environmentally friendly on the market.
The coffins are made of palm leaves which are readily available in the district and their use will reduce the cutting of trees.
The use of eco-coffins also allows the body to decompose fast so that the piece of land can be used for other purposes in the future.
The chairperson for the group, Mrs Emily Ncube said the women are still learning the new venture, adding that they are making coffins for children while adult coffins will be introduced soon.
Lupane Women Centre Manager, Hildeguard Mufukare whose organisation is assisting the women said the concept which was developed as part of the efforts to go green is beginning to bear fruits as they have already established a market in the United Kingdom.
The project has participation from women drawn from 28 wards in Lupane and the coffins will be exported mainly to the United Kingdom as the concept has not been promoted locally.
