The immediate last Member of Parliament for Insiza South under the MDC led by Professor Welshman Ncube has resigned from the party with immediate effect.
Speaking to Studio 7 on the phone this evening, Malandu Ncube indicated that he is quitting the party because of the party's lack of principality. Malandu who was a member of the MDC National Executive Committee representing Matebeleland South said he gave his resignation from the party to the party President Professor Welshman Ncube by means of an hour long phone call.
Top among the reasons why he quit the party, Malandu indicated that it was the way the party had failed to address the issue of Secretary General Prisicilla Misihairabwi Mushonga's secondment to stand as a parliamentarian representing Matebeleland South. According to Malandu, the party leadership has been making promises to address the issue but to no avail. This he says has created a huge hatred between him and Mushonga so much that he is not prepared to remain in the party as long as Mushonga is at the helm of the party.
Asked on his next move following the resignation, Malandu was specific that he is not going to be joining any other political party not now or in the future. He indicated that only if the MDC would revisit the Misihairabwi - Mushonga issue then he will be very quick to submit an application for readmission to the party. He was also quick to mention that his heart will always be with the MDC a party which he says he has worked for too hard and spent a lot of his personal money on.
Several senior members of the MDC have continued to raised concerns to the party leadership through various forms of media expressing their disappointment on the way Misihairabwi Mushonga was seconded to parliament on a Matebeleland South ticket. Two senior members of the party Aldermen Petros Mukwena and Charles Mpofu have recently been dismissed from the party for expressing their unhappiness with Mushonga's being imposed on Matebeleland South. Similar calls have been made by Matebeleland South Women's Chairlady Elizabeth Ndlovu and former legislatures Patrick Dube, Moses Mzila Ndlovu and Senator Andrew Tapela. Some party insiders have indicated that the senior members are next to face the wreath of the red hot disciplinary committee and will be on their way out soon.
