The Zanu-PF Midlands provincial executive's squabbles could be far from over after some members of the committee boycotted a recent meeting.

Other Zanu-PF members disapprove the new executive as appointed by the party.

The Herald reported that the new executive was announced by Zanu-PF political commissar Webster Shamu at a meeting at the party's conference centre in Gweru last week.

But there were strong objections on the criteria used to appoint the new executive.

Some members were accused of hiding behind party bigwigs to perpetuate their selfish interests, while others called on President Mugabe to deal with factionalism decisively before it brought embarrassment and dishonour to Zanu-PF.

The Politburo recently gave a directive to the province to consider only members who were elected into the provincial basket to be appointed to provincial posts.

Over 20 members who had participated in the previous election were subsequently regarded ineligible.

Shamu, who was chairing the meeting, said the party was going to review the situation after gathering facts as well as getting the people's views.

"Any election no matter how democratic it could be, it is bound to have its own flows," he said.

"It was important for us to come to the grassroots to listen to the people of Midlands expressing their views, while at the same time guided by the party's policy.

"We are aware that we went through an election process that saw them elect leaders from grassroots and there were disagreements and misunderstandings. Taking that on board, we felt that it is still a functional executive that has to carry out its duties as per party's constitution," he said.

Shamu said Zanu-PF did not condone factionalism and the party was going to deliberate on such issues to reunite feuding members.
