A house belonging to a Zanu-PF councillor in Kwekwe was on Saturday night bombed by unknown attackers. No one was injured.

Vongaishe Mupereri said the bomb, which exploded around midnight, wrecked 38 window panes of three other houses in the neighbourhood.

A visibly shaken Mupereri of ward 11 in Mbizvo said the bomb ripped off two asbestos sheets as well as water and sewer pipes.

Mupereri said he suspected his political rivals of being behind the attack, claiming that one of the losing candidates in the party's district elections had been sending him threatening messages.

"I suspect my political contenders who lost in the party elections to have done this because I have been receiving some threats of this nature on my phone. I'm not afraid to say this," he said.

"I have reported the incident to the police and it's all now to them to find out who did this.

"I am now scared for myself and my family after witnessing such an incident", said Mupereri.

Midlands acting police spokesperson Ethel Mukwenda confirmed the incident, but could not reveal much, referring further questions to national police spokesperson Paul Nyathi.
