Beitbridge Senator Tambudzazni Mohadi yesterday accused Zanu-PF women's league in Matabeleland South of side-lining her because she is Venda.
Sen Mohadi, who is the wife of Home Affairs Minister Kembo Mohadi, lashed out at party members after she was trounced by 104 votes to 30, in the race to lead the province in the national congress slated for 20 August in Harare.
She lost to deputy Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development Abigail Damasane.
The loss meant Damasane would lead the province in the quest to get positions in the national women's league, while Mohadi deputises her.
Also included in the delegation will be Margarine Khumalo and Sinikiwe Dube, who came third and fourth unopposed.
Taking the loss in her stride, Mohadi said she knew people did not vote for her because she is Venda.
"I have been working in the party since I was a little girl and I know you do not want me because I am Venda. However, I will continue working hard with all members and organs of the party be it Shonas or Ndebeles. I did not come first simply because I am Venda," she said.
Preparations for the congress have gathered momentum with Bulawayo selecting Eunice Sandi Moyo, Judith Ncube, Esnath Moyo and Rosie Phiri to lead the province.
