'Support Khaya Moyo,' ex-Zapu cadres told

Zanu-PF politburo member and businessman Tshinga Dube has called on other ex-PF Zapu cadres interested in the united partys' second presidency to "back off" and support incumbent national chair Simon Khaya Moyo's elevation.

The Zimbabwe Defence Industries chief executive's calls - in as many weeks - came at a Bulawayo fundraiser for the late John Nkomo's trust on Friday and at which Dube, along with 10
others, were appointed to a memorial trust.

In a cryptic message aimed at former PF Zapu stalwarts, among them Home Affairs minister Kembo Mohadi, ex-Zimbabwean ambassador to South Africa Phelekezela Mphoko and Ambrose Mutinhiri, and eyeing the Zanu-PF top posts, Dube reportedly said "people must look themselves in the mirror and see if they are really fit to run for the vice presidency" in lieu of Khaya Moyo's experience, and profile.

Apart from doing some serious self-introspection, the Bulawayo businessman also said people must consider whether it was in their interest to keep or sustain this divisive jockeying and when tradition, seniority and precedent had served them well.

While Khaya Moyo has received boundless support from several quarters, including ex-Cabinet minister Cephas Msipa, the likes of Mohadi have stated their ambition by repeating statements at the weekend that they would accept nomination for higher office.

Meanwhile, Khaya Moyo and trust chairperson Jabulani Nkomo have rallied the nation to support the key philanthropic initiatives, among them the completion of Landa John High School in Tsholotsho and, set in motion by the late veteran nationalist.

At the fundraising dinner, the trustees singled out for praise Harare businessman and family friend Wicknell Chivayo for his support of the event, and other pledges.
