Senior MDC officials in Matabeleland South reportedly fled in different directions when a former party member they wanted to evict from their offices allegedly drew a gun on them.
The group led by former Gwanda mayor, Lionel De Necker were sent by the party leadership to evict Jabulani Sibanda, who is reportedly employed by the Gwanda Town Council, from the party offices in Gwanda on Sunday.
Sources at the party said the eviction mission turned to comedy as the group reportedly left in a huff with Sibanda waving a gun at them.
De Necker said it was untrue that Sibanda had chased them away with a gun.
"That is an exaggeration my friend and you should not believe it. We were sent by the party to evict Sibanda who has been illegal staying at the offices for more than seven years. We suspect that he illegally connected electricity to the office and has been subletting it without consent from the party," said De Necker.
De Necker said Sibanda had over the years ignored written notices by both the provincial and national executive to leave the offices.
"The offices are not residential property and besides, he left the party long ago," said the ex-mayor.
He said Sibanda has since left the office, which has since been locked.
"We don't know where he has gone to, but on Sunday, he came here with a group of people that included for Councillor Themba Nyoni and Sipho Ndlovu and others. I think they wanted to intimidate us," he said.
A comment could not be obtained from Sibanda who seems to have vanished into thin air.
