Sithembiso Nyoni sidelined

ZANU-PF Matabeleland North provincial chairperson Richard Moyo yesterday said they have no power to reverse an order prohibiting Politburo member Sithembiso Nyoni from attending today's party celebrating the appointment of members from the province into the Politburo.
The celebrations, where Zanu-PF Politburo member Obert Mpofu will be the guest of honour, will be held at the Freedom Square at Binga Centre.
Nyoni has been in the spotlight for calling the Zanu-PF Matabeleland North provincial leadership "shallow" following a failed bid to have her removed from the Central Committee in the run up to the party's 6th National People's Congress last December.
The Matabeleland North provincial executive had attempted to block Nyoni's nomination to the Central Committee, along with Cdes Jacob Mudenda, Fati Mpofu and Elias Mavule.
The Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) met in Lupane last week on Saturday and resolved that Nyoni, who is also the Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and Co-operative Development, should be summoned before the committee to explain herself and issue an apology for her utterances.
Moyo said they were preparing for the party that was organised by Binga district.
"We're going there. All the invited people are going there, we'll be there," he said.
Asked about the province's stance on the barring of Nyoni, Moyo said the event was organised by youths from Binga.
"It was clear that we don't have anything against Nyoni and that she needs to come to the province and apologise for calling the leadership shallow. With regards to the party that's the position of the youths from Binga and not of the province," he said.
"They (Binga youths) are the ones who organised the party, so there's nothing we can do about or to change that. There're those that were invited and those that were not."
Nyoni on Thursday declined to comment on the matter.
Zanu-PF provincial youth chairperson Tamuka Nyoni said Binga youths were following the province's stance that Nyoni should apologise for her utterances.
"At the PCC meeting, I said if Nyoni doesn't come and apologise to the province, she'll find us with placards and block her entry into the meeting. I later called her to communicate my stance since she wasn't in attendance," said the provincial youth chairperson.
"I told her that perhaps she made statements out of anger so there was need to apologise. The Binga youths then followed my stance because they also feel that she needs to apologise for her statements on the provincial leadership."
Zanu-PF Matabeleland North provincial youth secretary for information and publicity Elias Sibanda, one of the organisers of the party, on Wednesday said; "She (Nyoni) said the leadership of the province is shallow so we want to avoid problems since she's the only one who is not shallow.
"When shallow people meet a sharp person there's bound to be problems as they won't be able to gel so her presence isn't welcome."
