MATABELELAND South police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a 32-year-old woman was found in the middle of the road along the Bulawayo-Plumtree highway.
Sikhangezile Donga, of Fairview village in Figtree, was found dead at the 58km peg along the highway by motorists last Saturday.
The woman's father, Mncedwa Caleb Donga, said his daughter left home in the morning heading to Marula Clinic which is situated along the Bulawayo-Plumtree highway.
She did not return home, only for her body to be discovered the following day.
Donga said Marula Clinic is located about 10 kilometres away from their home.
He said post-mortem results indicated that his daughter succumbed to brain damage as a result of head injuries.
"My daughter left home in the morning to collect her medication from Marula Clinic.
"She didn't come back and I later received news that her body was discovered on the road," said Donga.
"When I rushed there I found her lying about 100 metres from the bus stop where she would have disembarked from a vehicle and there was a lot of blood on the road."
He said detectives who attended the scene indicated that injuries to her head suggested that she could have fallen off from a moving vehicle.
He said when his daughter was first found on the road, she was alive but not talking. She died before he arrived.
"I think she was pushed off from the vehicle because I know that my daughter couldn't have committed suicide.
"The fact that she was continuously visiting the clinic to improve her health meant that she wanted to live longer," he added.
"If she jumped out after seeing that she had passed her bus stop, it would have been fair if the person who was involved in the incident came clean and apologised."
He said his daughter is survived by a seven-year-old son.
Neighbour, Sabina Moyo, said: "Sikhangezile was lying in the middle of the road right on top of the road markings. Her neck was twisted slightly which indicated that she might have landed on the road with her head.
"Her skirt was still intact but her blouse was in tatters. Her state left us wondering what could have happened to her."
Moyo said Skhangezile's handbag and cellphone were found close to her body.
Matabeleland South Police say they have opened a murder investigation.
