ZANU PF Member of Parliament for Gwanda Central Edison Gumbo is reportedly bussing hundreds of youth from his home area of Mberengwa to take up residential stands created for ZANU PF youth by Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere.
Sources from within ZANU PF offices in Gwanda claim that the Municipality of Gwanda has reserved an area that can provide up to 800 residential stands for ZANU PF youth under the instruction of Kasukuwere.
Instead of the stands being given to the local youth, Gumbo is reported to have brought in youth from his Mberengwa home to take up over half the available stands.
In the run up to the 2013 elections, Gumbo also brought in a huge number of people from his Mberengwa area to occupy resettlement areas in the rural wards of Gwanda Central constituency where he pulled massive votes to eventually win the elections.
One resettlement area in the outskirts of Gwanda town is reportedly so occupied by people from Mberengwa so much that the headmen and their areas of authority in the new village are being referred to using names of areas in Mberengwa such as Maranda Line, Neshuro Line and Mataga Line all being areas in Mberengwa from where the resettled villagers were moved from.
The sources claim that local ZANU PF youth members are up in arms with the legislature's latest move vowing to resist the allocation of the stands to anyone from outside Gwanda.
"If Gumbo wants votes from people if Mberengwa it is a lot easier for him to go and stand election in his home area not here in Gwanda," one of the sources told Bulawayo24 news.
Gumbo could not be reached for a comment on the matter.
