Vice President John Nkomo is reportedly furious at the conduct of senior Zanu PF members in Bulawayo who snubbed a funeral service for late national hero Edson Ncube on Wednesday.

Ncube died in Bulawayo on Sunday and was buried at the national heroes acre in Harare on Friday.

A funeral service was held for Ncube in Bulawayo on Wednesday evening  before his body was flown to the capital.

"When VP arrived in Mpopoma for the funeral service, he was shocked to see that most senior members of the party were not present," said  a party official.

Some of the senior member who reportedly snubbed the event were politburo members Eunice Sandi Moyo, Joshua Malinga, Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, retired Colonel Tshunga Dube, Angeline Masuku among others.

"Because of the absence of senior members, the procession was led by provincial members Molly Mpofu and Godfrey Malaba who are too junior to preside over events of such a magnitude," said the official.

"The VP was not happy with what he saw and did not hide his feelings. he demanded an explanation on why the senior members were not present but did not get any answers."

Nkomo is expected to call a meeting in Bulawayo soon where he is expected to demand an explanation from the senior party leaders over their absence.

The Zanu PF Bulawayo structures have recently been dogged with internal fighting that resulted in the sacking of its provincial chairman Isaac Dakamela.

Acting provincial chairman Killian Sibanda declined to comment on the matter saying, "I can not speak on behalf of the people who were not there, maybe if you could call them, they will explain why they did not come."
