Looking beyond Mugabe's advice to Mnangangwa
27 Feb 2019 at 11:26hrs | Views
All of us could have been taken aback by Mugabe's advice to his "successor" against using the army on innocent civilians. This was Zimbabwe's only leader before he was unceremoniously removed by the military. He has refused to apologize for Gukurahundi calling it a moment of madness when a crack unit trained by North Korea was unleashed in Matabeleland killing thousands of Ndebele speaking people as well as in parts of Midlands.
Why has Mugabe refused to apologize, is it because it was nonother than the current leader who was in charge of operations during that era?
The Chronicle archives of March,1983 have Mnangangwa likening "dissidents "to cockroaches and 5th Brigade as "DDT". He was in charge of State Security which spearheaded the operations with Gukurahundi in the field as they sought annihilation of Ndebeles.
Mnangagwa though has sought to portray himself as just being a minister at that period thus capable of initiating the obliteration of Ndebeles. The commander of 5th Brigade was Perence Shiri who said," politicians should leave it to us with regard to settling things in Matabeleland." Does this exonerate the former ruler? Commander of 1Brigade was non other than the current Vice President, Chiwenga who provided logistical support to 5th Brigade which operated beyond the Commander in chief, s powers.
Mugabe old as he is still sharp with his mind hence his comments cannot be dismissed as effects of senility.
Rhumba singer turned politician Mutodi thinks he can defend his master .He should know when to shut his mouth and let the junta leader defend himself.
There can never be double coincidences or more ,ask some one in security. Mnangagwa's name has cropped up many a time. Gukurahundi, Operation Murambatsvina, Election re-run in 2008 when soldiers took over Zanu PF campaign and more than 200 MDC people died while hundreds were maimed .
He promises fake reforms yet retains JOC which he heads. Zimbabwe is not at war so why do we still have a brainchild of Rhodesia in this present day 38 years after lndependence ?
Mugabe on his birthday was simply saying soldiers have been used before by people hiding behind him. He refuses to apologize when three key figures of Gukurahundi -Mnangangwa, Chiwenga and Shiri are all there and still holding powerful positions in government.
