Enos Nkala tell-all book may never be published for fear of a paper tiger!

"The late former Home Affairs and Defence minister, Enos Mzombi Nkala must be turning in his grave in the wake of allegations that some of his trusted friends and relatives are deliberately delaying the publication of his book which has unsettled ruling Zanu-PF leaders," reported Thabo Kunene in Bulawayo24.

Mr Nkala did not publish the book himself because he feared for his life, his family, friends, etc. Whoever he asked to get the book published after his death is not doing it because they too are afraid.

Who in Zimbabwe is not afraid? Show me one person who is not afraid and I will show you a liar!

Fear is a bad thing.

The late Enos Nkala lived the last decade or so of his life in abject poverty and died a pauper. The late Nathan Shamuyarira, himself also a Zanu PF grandee like Nkala, too lived the last decade or so of his life in abject poverty and died a pauper. They saw like the rest of us how the Zanu PF dictatorship had been a total failure; it promised mass prosperity but delivered mass poverty instead. On the political front the regime has ridden roughshod over the people's aspiration of freedom, liberty and human dignity.

Nkala and Shamuyarira not only witnessed these economic and political failures, they had first-hand experience of what it is to be destitute. They knew the root cause of this was Zanu PF misrule and yet never dared to tell Mugabe so themselves.

2 million Zimbabweans are living in abject poverty today because the nation has not told Mugabe he is a corrupt and murderous tyrant. We are afraid to say it.

Over 30 000 Zimbabweans have been murdered by the regime over the years for selfish political gain. We have never demanded justice because we fear the regime.

Fear is a terrible thing particularly when it stops you stopping the very things you fear may happen. Mugabe has forced millions of Zimbabweans into a life of abject poverty and despair and his thugs have beaten, raped and murdered others; our fear of him doing these things to us has not stopped him doing them. Indeed our fear of him has had the exact opposite effect; instead of sending the message "Do not do it!" our fear told him "We are totally helpless, do as you please!" And he did!

It was the great USA President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) who said "There is nothing to be feared but fear itself!" He should know because he entered White House at the peak of America's worst economic depression of 1933. He went on to implement relief, reform and recovery policies that pulled the world out of this nightmare and have become the template copied and applied by many other nations ever since.

FDR justified America's involved in the Second World War by introducing the four freedoms; freedom from fear was one of them!

How ironic that no Zimbabwean; not even those declared national heroes for their (supposedly) fearless fight for freedom, people like the late Enos Nkala and Nathan Shamuyarira; have ever tasted freedom from fear. Like the rest of us, Nkala lived in fear and went to his grave with his lips sealed from fear! Even now from behind his grave his lips are to remain sealed; his "tell all" book will never see the light of day! For that is what it means to live in a totalitarian country like Zimbabwe!

Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because we been like a hare caught in the dazzling headlight of the juggernaut Zanu PF. We have been paralysed by fear to get out of the way and to think straight. However after 34 years of this we are really need to snap out of it particularly as it is now self-evident that Mugabe and the Zanu PF dictatorship are nothing but paper tigers!
