Zanu-PF coup plotters: Guilty or Innocent?

26 Nov 2014 at 12:53hrs | Views

Allegations of assassination leveled against Nicholas Goche, Didymus Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo should be investigated to put the record straight. The trio is accused of plotting to kill the President Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe through gun firing.

Coup plotters should be investigated thoroughly to establish whether they should be arrested or get cleared of these allegations. The current bickering about this matter should be put to rest if sufficient evidence or lack of it is verified, and made public for all to see.

Plotting assassination of the head of state is a serious case which amounts to treason charges, which also leads to subversion as it aims to remove a constitutionally elected head of state by devious means.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) should institute and accelerate investigations into the case. If it is real, then the guilty should be arrested and taken before courts to permit justice to prevail.

Justice should take precedence so as to uphold the rule of law. If justice is not taken in this case then, there is risky for the nation to be guilty selective application of the law. There are no sacred cows before the law.

The trio which is closely linked to a faction led by Vice President Joyce Mujuru is not the first to plot assassinating President Robert Mugabe.

In the past Ndabaningi Sithole and Morgan Tsvangirai faced similar charges, and they were arrested and brought before the courts where their matters were heard and judgment delivered. The same should follow suit now!
