The private media should stop glorifying hallucinators

07 Jan 2015 at 14:48hrs | Views
It is quite surprising that some sections of the media are engaging themselves in mischievous misrepresentation to the general populace. We all know that the controversial businessman cum politician, Energy Mutodi is facing fraud charges and for some private media houses to take seriously his hallucinations or wishful thinking is quite surprising.

Mutodi wrote on his Facebook page that Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa would succeed President Robert Mugabe in March this year. He also claimed that the First Lady, Dr Amai Grace Mugabe would become Vice President. He also alleged that former Vice President, Joyce Mujuru's allies were behind a plot to poison President Mugabe in a bid to force an extraordinary Congress to reinstate Dr Mujuru.

Mutodi wrote that "according to their plans, Kaukonde wants to first save his MPs from expulsion and then secure peace talks between First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe and Dr Joice Mujuru. His aim is to achieve an extraordinary Congress that will install former Vice President Mujuru as the people's choice in the 2018 elections."

Kaukonde also knows that he is running out of time as reports indicate that Vice Pressident, Emmerson Mnangagwa may be installed as President of the Republic by March this year with First Lady, Grace Mugabe taking over his seat as Vice President, a development that will finally seal the Mujuru faction demise.

The Dailynews, whether it was to its wisdom or lack of it, glorified Mutodi's hallucinations as fact. These private media houses are in the habit of amplifying discussions involving the succession issue with an ulterior motive. In most cases the statements will be misguided, mischievous and misdirected. In actual fact, Mutodi's sentiments were wishful thinking.

Some corrupt Zanu-PF members and political malcontents in the likes of Mutodi should be ignored and warned not to take the people's party for a ride. After all, he is not the official spokesperson of Zanu-PF.

Mutodi's utterances are calculated to match claims being made by the private media that President Mugabe is no longer fit to rule. It is high time for him to concentrate on the allegations he is facing for fraudulently taking hardly earned money from desperate home seekers. Since when did Mutodi become a political analyst? His analysis borders on conjecture, innuendo and vilification.

The Dailynews should not stoop so low to the extend of using the facebook as its source of information without any effort to verify or authenticate the validity and accuracy of information, as well as reliability of the source, in gross violation of media ethics. The tabloid is trying to cause unnecessary suspicion between H.E. President Mugabe and VP Mnangagwa to no avail. What a false and shameful start in 2015 for this opposition mouthpiece.
