PDP condemns continuing State Enterprise corruption

It's looting as usual while Mugabe sleeps on the job

The Auditor General has just issued a damning report on how 28 State Enterprise CEOs abused up to $800 million in the 2014-15 year. This was done through fraud and the mismanagement of funds. Tax evasion and benefits have been the means which state enterprises CEOs continue to milk public funds without being brought to book. Extravagant holidays, luxury cars, high educational loans, unauthorised board fees, high salaries, fuel travel and cell phone allowances are some of the largest expenses noted.

As PDP we have been consistent in saying that ZANU (PF) is not serious about dealing with corruption, whether it be within State Enterprises or government Ministries.

The Zimbabwe economy is at the brink and is no longer viable because of the looting which continues unabated as President Mugabe sleeps on the job or is in a plane travelling outside the country on many of his fruitless sojourns which continue to cost the country millions.

In the coming week, the Minister of Finance Patrick Chinamasa will be in London trying to convince an audience that things are improving and they must invest in Zimbabwe. This to us is a waste of time and nothing can be further from the truth.

Zimbabwe has been bankrupted by the rapacious greed of ZANU (PF) and its incompetence in budgeting and planning. That is not likely to change as long as we have the same team in place. Throwing money at the problem will not solve it either because it is their value system which is wrong.

The solution out of this quagmire is simple and straightforward-Mugabe and his thieving team must step down and hand over the country to a transitional authority so we can revive the economy and institute all the necessary political and economic reforms.

Short of the above, any funds or loans advanced to this government will merely postpone substantive change and the collapse of a system which is no longer viable.

We repeat that ZANU (PF) is corrupt to the core and incompetent in reviving this economy. Those who want to pour funds into this sinking ship are welcome but Zimbabweans cannot be held liable in the future for any liability created by ZANU (PF) and its predatory cabal. It is time for change.

Another Zimbabwe is possible!
