NATIONAL Railways of Zimbabwe workers have not been paid for the third consecutive month amid allegations that the troubled parastatal has made an undertaking to "contribute" towards the on-coming Zanu PF conference.
Angry workers who were sauntering outside the Kingdom Bank situated at corner 9th Avenue and Jason Moyo said they were advised to come and get their salaries at the bank but bank officials said the company has not deposited anything to their accounts.
"We did not get our salaries. The girls at the bank said there is no money put by the company," said a van attendant who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals.
Zanu PF is expected to have its annual people conference from 6 December to 9 December 2011 at the Trade Fair in Bulawayo.
The party has extended a begging bowl to well wishers and a fortnight ago it got US$21 000 in a fundraising dinner at Bulawayo Polytechnic College.
NRZ which has failed to pay its workers, widows and retired staff, has a reputation of "assisting" the party, said a source and this time around they have "pledged" to come in handy.
The company has also failed to provide services and recently one of its major properties was gutted down by fire.
"We do not even know where they will get money to give to Zanu PF where they will get money when they cannot even pay us," said another frustrated worker.
NRZ Spokesperson Fanuel Masikati could not be reached for comment as he never replied his phone
