A new Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Board comprising of 10 members has been appointed and immediately given a challenge to ensure that the country increases the number of international tourist arrivals to 5 million by 2015. The board is headed by businesswoman, Mrs. Mara Hativagone.

Announcing the new Zimbabwe Tourism Board, the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Walter Mzembi said the conception of what constitutes Zimbabwe tourism must not be restricted to experiencing the few iconic features like Victoria Falls, Lake Kariba and Eastern Highlands, but must embrace all things that make the country.

These include natural and physical features, the land masses, water bodies, forests, wildlife and cultural elements such as music and dance.

He challenged the new board to turn around the fortunes of the tourism industry.

Mzembi said Zimbabwe should start to be creative and start organising, packaging and marketing all tourism products, among them narratives about the liberation war.

"A tourism product, just like a spot where a local former cattle herder turned guerrilla in a remote village, is as much a shrine as is the Heroes Acre in Harare," said Mzembi.

Mrs. Hativagone who is currently chairing the Zimbabwe Investment Board is taking over from Dr Shingi Munyeza.

She will be deputised by Mr. Genius Maposa, who was Deputy Chairman in the outgoing Board.

Other board members include Mr.  Vitalis Chadenga, the Director General of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, Mrs. Cleopatra Mutisi, Mr. George Magosvongwe, Ms Hilda Mwamuka, Mrs. Eniva Mutsau, Executive Director National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe, Dr Godfrey Mahachi, Mr. Clemence Masango and Mr Clive Stockil, a Wildlife Conservancy owner from Masvingo.
