PRESIDENT Mugabe who is fresh from the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York has warned Zanu-PF officials who use Zanu-PF for enriching themselves saying they were bad elements in the ruling party.
Addressing Zanu-PF supporters who thronged the Harare International Airport on Saturday to welcome him from New York Mugabe castigated some Zanu-PF big wigs for deviating from the party's vision and principles saying they faced disciplinary measures.
He accused some Zanu-PF officials for exalting themselves instead of prioritizing people and development.
"If you deviate from the principles and vision of the party because of your personal interests even though you are senior member of the party, we will reprimand you so that you follow the party's principles," Mugabe said speaking in his native Shona.
"We don't want party officials who prioritise their own interests for personal gain. We want those who put people first," Mugabe charged. If you think as an office bearer the party has a responsibility of fending for you, you are lost. We don't want you. Your greatness comes from what you do for the people. The party comes first, you are the servant of the party. Even the President is a servant number one of the party."
Mugabe also urged Zanu-PF Harare province to work hard and reassert its dominance in the capital by reclaiming parliamentary seats lost to the opposition MDC-T in the 2013 harmonised elections. President Mugabe called for unity in Harare province if Zanu-PF was to reclaim the seats saying the dominance of the MDC-T in Harare would soon end.
At the airport to welcome President Mugabe were Vice President Joice Mujuru, Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister Jonathan Moyo, Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Ignatius Chombo, Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Cde Amos Midzi, service chiefs, and other senior Government and Zanu-PF officials.
