'Mujuru to be barred from Zanu-PF congress'

Chairperson of the Zanu-PF Harare province youth league, Godfrey Gomwe, has declared that youths will bar Vice-President Joice Mujuru - who has been accused of plotting to assassinate President Robert Mugabe - from attending the party's congress scheduled for next week.
Gomwe Thursday said the Zanu-PF constitution stipulated that youths were the party's vanguard hence they should play their part in defending the interests of President Mugabe and the party at large.
"As we prepare for congress which is being hosted by our province next week, we are encouraging youths in Harare to rally behind the president and the First Lady Grace Mugabe," Gomwe said.
"Those who have been accused of plotting to kill our president will not be allowed to attend or be part of the proceedings at the congress. According to the Zanu-PF constitution Article 23 (186)(ii), as youths we have to defend the interests of the party and subsequently, it is our role to ensure that we bar those who have been plotting against the president from attending congress. Vice-president (Mujuru) must not waste her time in setting her foot near or at the congress unless President Mugabe rules otherwise."
Gomwe said opposition party leader Morgan Tsvangirai was far much better than Zanu-PF members who had been implicated in a plot to assasinate the president.
"Tsvangirai is better than the so-called Zanu-PF cadres who wine and dine with President Mugabe while plotting his ouster. Over 67% of the country's population are youths and we would like to tell our president not to have sleepless nights for we are more than ready to defend him," said Gomwe.
Zanu-PF senior members, who include suspended former party spokesperson, Rugare Gumbo, Labour and Social Welfare minister, Nicholas Goche, and secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa are among other officials facing accusations of plotting to eliminate President Mugabe from office through unorthodox means.
The three have denied the accusations.
Earlier this week, Mujuru failed to submit his nomination papers in central committee elections in Bindura as she was barred by youths who accused her of the plot.
Goche was also forced to withdraw submitting his nomination papers while a number of cabinet ministers and top party officials aligned to Mujuru also lost their seats in the central committee.
Zanu-PF is set to hold its congress next week where President Mugabe is expected to choose the new presidium.
