MDC condemns persecution of government critics

The continued crack down on government critics and President Robert Mugabe's chilling threats to descend heavily on people who speak out on his failures as a leader, is evidence of government's intolerance of critical voices and an indicator of the harsh reality that Zimbabwe under President Mugabe has become a fully blown authoritarian regime.

It is clear that the regime does not intend to put an end to its barbaric campaign of repression on anyone who opposes it.

When you see a regime acting in such a desperate manner, it means that its days are severely numbered.

Barbaric acts including arbitrary arrests, torture, harassment and intimidation of the regime's critics and their families continue being used to supress expression critical of the failed and failing regime of President Mugabe with the sole intention of creating a climate of fear and self -censorship in the nation.

The MDC condemns the clamp down on free speech and protest with all the contempt it deserves. What Mugabe does not realise is that Zimbabwe are past the stage of being afraid of him. Suffering Zimbabweans have become hardened and immune to threats from a dying old man.

We urge Zimbabweans to continue resisting these machinations to silence them.
