Chamisa vs Mwonzora
01 Mar 2019 at 12:42hrs | Views
German dictator and NAZI supremo Mr Adolf Hilter once told his Gestapo these famous words "If you loose you don't need to be there to explain".Zimbabwe politics is no longer the same since the assuming of MDC presidency by Mr Nelson Chamisa. He was one of the MDC vice presidents appointed by democracy icon Dr Richard Tsvangirai.
Let's not forget that Mr Nelson Chamisa faced Dr Douglas Mwonzora at the last congress contesting for the Secretary General post that fell vacant after the explusion of then Sec Gen Tendai Biti.Dr Mwonzora came out on top and Mr Chamisa was rescued by Dr Tsvangirai from political wilderness. Now these two democratic heavyweights will square off again but now for the MDC president arguably the second most powerful position after the Zimbabwean presidency.
This is a do or die congress for the opposition party and it is a make or break congress. The party will emerge form the congress stronger or weaker but all indications points to a stronger MDC after this make or break congress.Democracy is about freedom to contest or to express yourself the way you want and this is a right message for all Zimbabwean political parties to embrace in moving forward.
Douglas Mwonzora is a calm and mature politician who is needed in the opposition and he can make a great leader.Contrary to many people among opposition activists that he is a ZANU PF project that is not the case he is excecising his democratic right in the party just like anyone and if he wins MDC will also be in good hands, remember he played a big role in the drafting of our country constitution. He is a great secretary General of the party and a composed figure amongst MDC stalwarts. The fact that he is being supported by well known Zanu-PF apologists and party members must not surprise the MDC because that the nature of politics and for him I think the best way is for Doug to distance himself from toxic Zanu-PF guys like Mutodi and Lewis Matutu who are now acting as his campaign advisors.
MDC must show Zanu-PF that they are a democratic party which tolerate different views or visions.Nelson Chamisa supporters must accept the challenge from Mwonzora to avoid creating another Mugabe from Chamisa. There is no doubt that Dr Mwonzora timing of challenging the incumbent is wrong but principles must be the order of the day in the MDC.Nelson Chamisa is the favorite to win there is no doubt about that our plea is to see Mwonzora returning the secretary General post after congress to strengthen the movement in tackling the monster called Zanu-PF.Chamisa won 2018 national polls and is the most popular politician in Zimbabwe right now and if things remain the same we will witness a heavy beating of Dr Mwonzora by Chamisa come congress. As things stand right now in Zimbabwe MDC needs the presidency of Chamisa more than of Mwonzora because Zanu-PF doesn't need kind gloves they need a leader who will go toe to toe with them like what Nelson Chamisa is doing at the moment.
Zanu-PF is showing signs of desperatation by backing calm, mature but unpopular Dr Mwonzora at this contest. The economy is at its knees and we are witnessing long queues from fuel to food. That is what we must see Zanu-PF dealing with than spending money on MDC congress when it is crystal clear that Mr Nelson Chamisa will win this one. We are seeing a renewed MDC under Chamisa and he is showing Zanu-PF particularly ED and war vets that he can be challenged at a party congress something which Zanu-PF has failed to do since 1963.Whoever wins this contrast will definitely become the next Zimbabwe president in the coming years because it's now clear that Zanu-PF is no longer in touch with the masses they are now busy looting for the last time. Zanu-PF youth league is the thing of the past because it's leader is more than 60yrs which clearly shows that its a party of only war vets and those who are connected to the looting machine. Most Zimbabwe are educated and they studied history that's why they are want to associate themself with the future than the past and its Zanu-PF. Remember what happened to Nigerian ruler Dr Sani Abachar's children after his fall from grace that's must ring in the ears of Zanu-PF youths who are falsely claiming that they will die for a corrupt and looting president in ED Mnangagwa.Democray must prevail at the congress and we want to see a united MDC after the congress with Mr Nelson Chamisa remaining Joshua of the struggle.
