Zanu-PF is not afraid of anyone

29 May 2015 at 13:10hrs | Views

I could not believe it when I read an article in one of the local dailies where Vice President, Emmerson Mnangagwa is alleged of sending emissaries to persuade former Zanu-PF Hurungwe West Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa, to withdraw his independent candidature for the June 10 by-elections for that constituency.

Surely, Zanu-PF is a mature political party that has been in the world of politics since 1963. I don't see any reason why the party is being accused of panicking the by-election. For so long, the ruling party has been participating and winning in other challenging elections other than these by-elections.

The revolutionary party remains people's party choice up to date. The electorate needs politicians who have people at heart. It is a fact that Zanu-PF is a people's centered party. Unlike other opposition and independent candidates who only appear during election time, Zanu-PF has policies that serve the interest of the general populace.

Mliswa once won the Hurungwe West Parliamentary seat because he was contesting under the Zanu-PF ticket. Voters are scared of politicians who use them mainly because they want to get into power whilst on the other hand they have nothing tangible to offer them. People need Parliamentarians who are able to represent them through upgrading their standards of living.

I therefore question the viability of independent candidate? Where exactly will they get the funds to sponsor projects that will assist in improving people's lives? Electorate should be aware of some of these stand alone politicians, as most of them will be used as projects of the western nations who will have an agenda of effecting regime change.
There is no doubt that Mliswa is one of them.

Zanu-PF candidate for Hurungwe West constituency, Cde Keith Guzah must be encouraged to remain strong ahead of the by-election. With less than two weeks before the by-election, voters should be advised to make a proper decision before going to the ballot box. Electorate should be aware of the Afrobarometer report that opposition parties are no longer relevant in the political arena.

Because of its people centered policies, Zanu-PF will never fear any opposition or independent candidates.  History has shown that it is not easy for independent candidates to win seats in any elections. Only a few independent candidates managed to succeed in that race.
