ZANU PF ghost haunts opposition's future

13 Apr 2016 at 10:55hrs | Views
The dynamics of Zimbabwean politics have been largely defined by ZANU PF one way or the other. A glance into the historical and present political climate reveals that ZANU PF leads while opposition parties follow.

Of late, the opposition has been making noises claiming that ZANU PF supporters treat President Robert Mugabe as a deity of some kind. They also insinuate that ZANU PF leaders consider themselves as God-given or a special gift from God. So perplexed are they with the allegiance President Mugabe enjoys and yet they cannot see the answers right under their noses.

I for one would not blame the supporters of ZANU PF for believing or rather knowing, that the voice and wish of God somehow illuminates through ZANU PF.

After sparing a thought to the trends and composition of near relevant opposition political parties, one sees the traits of ZANU PF. The opposition becomes rather lost elements of ZANU PF seeking political vengeance after being cast out the revolutionary wagon.

No opposition party with a non ZANU PF background has significantly impacted on the political arena since independence.

The observation draws one to think that all the claims against ZANU PF and its leadership as recycling dead wood applies more aptly to the opposition leadership. They are indeed recycled elements of ZANU PF who have just appeared on the other side of the political field.

Examples would make this opinion more comprehensive. Morgan Tsvangirai is largely ZANU PF given he led the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions before he decided to fortune hunt and manoeuvre the founding purposes of the Union. Today he boasts as the only significant opposition political personality but his roots stem from ZANU PF.

This categorically collapses every fissure, molecule or iota that broke away from him into the ZANU PF matrices. After him there is apparently no one worthy to explain their political history as it is common secret they have been ZANU PF one way or the other.

Given this status qou, many have thought Joice Mujuru knows ZANU PF from inside and outside and that she has war credentials that could catapult her into Presidency. It would be prudent not to fool fellow Zimbabweans with such melodramatic fallacies. In as much as she knows ZANU PF, the party also knows her more because she is just an individual.

It is called legitimacy by numbers, the law of nature. She is another element that is very ZANU PF no wonder her vivid appetite to lure supporters from ZANU PF and the rest of the opposition political camps.

She knows that all those elements that compose the rest of the political parties are ZANU PF one way or the other. To cut the long story short, the campaign strategy of Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) of an inclusive recruitment approach is testimonial to the fact that after all Zimbabwe's political divide is just but a ZANU PF Pangea.

Empirically what self-proclaimed opposition political parties are advocating for is a transformed ZANU PF. This has its own problems no wonder the perennial losses at the hands of ZANU PF that have seen them desperately growing superstitious at the end of the day.

A more precise example would be the mulling of a grand coalition. The mere thought in this direction will tell you the opposition is denying the truth.

Reasonable and sane as the electorate are, they see nothing new from the fallen ZANU PF members except them trying to use the electorate to avenge their lost causes whilst they were still in ZANU PF.

An appealing approach would perhaps be, bringing something new to paddle the interests of Zimbabwe and Zimbabweans. The problem however, is ZANU PF has gone far beyond any other opposition political party can possibly reach as far bringing development to Zimbabwe. This has seen the opposition getting comfortable in fault finding and sometimes creating the faults because really there isn't much for them to offer than undo the efforts of ZANU PF. The MDC-T of late has unashamedly set up a shadow cabinet in a desperate effort to get even with ZANU PF.

All these ideas bring one to the common aspect on Zimbabwe and her politics, which is the future. The future in this essence remains ultimately ZANU PF.

It is not for the opposition leaders and their establishment to tell the electorate that we are one and the same with ZANU PF. It may not be surprising that they themselves (opposition) do not even know about it. Rather that inner conviction that makes one wants to continue voting ZANU PF is indexical to this notion and it has made even Mujuru to waywardly confess, hiding behind the finger claiming to be the "original ZANU PF."
