A SUSPECTED Bulawayo fraudster, who allegedly conned several jobseekers of between $20 and $80 after promising to secure them employment, was arrested over the weekend.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Bekimpilo Ndlovu yesterday confirmed the suspect's arrest, but declined to disclose his identity saying they were still investigating the matter.
"So far we have interviewed 20 people who collectively lost $720 to the suspect," he said.
Ndlovu said the suspect, known by the pseudonym G Mabhena or Gwafa, pasted posters on various supermarket walls in the city inviting prospective till operators, merchandisers, drivers, security guards and general hands to contact him for placements.
"Once contacted by job seekers, he would direct them to meet him at Bellevue Spar where they would find him waiting at the entrance," said Ndlovu. "He would then ask for their curriculum vitaes and make them pay money ranging from $20 to $80 depending on the job they would be seeking."
Ndlovu said the suspect always wore a Spar uniform to make him appear a genuine agent.
Police urged residents who fell victim to the con artist to report at Donnington Police Station or any nearest police station.
