A RUSAPE soldier has been arrested alongside two accomplices on allegations of murder after the patron they allegedly attacked and left for dead at a local night club died in hospital of internal injuries sustained during the assault.
According to Manica Post, the gunman Mthokozisi Khabo (26), of House Number 246, Mabvazuva, Rusape is being jointly charged with Collins Machiha (25) of House Number G125, Vengere and Livingstone Makoto of B57, Vengere. The trio was expected to appear in court yesterday (Thursday) to answer to charges of violating Section 47 of the Criminal (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23 which criminalise murder.
The three allegedly murdered Tendai Dhlamini (23), of House Number G110, Vengere, Rusape.
The late Dhlamini was on a beer drinking binge with Clinton Muchirahondo and Rutendo Madondo at Desim Nite Club (Neighbours) when a misunderstanding arose between him and the three alleged assailants over missing money.
Khabo is being represented by prominent Rusape lawyer, Maxwell Chiwanza, of Chiwanza and Partners Legal Practitioners.
The three accused Dhlamini of stealing an undisclosed amount of money from one of them.
The incident occurred on March 30 at around 3am. Dhlamini had a torrid time at the hands of the three assailants who mobbed and assaulted him as he lied on the ground facing upwards.
Manicaland deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the incident and said Dhlamini was left for dead and was assisted by Muchirahondo to get home.
"He neither reported the assault case to the police nor sought any medication on the day of the attack. On April 9, at around 10.30am he was taken to Rusape General Hospital by his grandfather, Josiah Dhlamini complaining of chest pains and was admitted. He died the following day around 6pm.
"His body was collected for burial on April 12 and moments before the burial detectives from CID Rusape picked information that he had been attacked by three assailants at Neighbours. They seized the body and took it to Rusape General Hospital mortuary and requested for a full post mortem," said Asst Insp Chananda.
An autopsy that was carried out by one Dr Matsvai concluded that Dhlamini's death was due to blunt abdominal trauma.
