A Mutare woman from Chikanga high-density suburb who could not identify the man who impregnated her as she slept with multiple partners has landed herself in trouble with the police after she terminated the pregnancy.

Shylet Tibu (29) of House Number 6619, Chikanga Phase 3 drank an overdose of tablets in a bid to terminate her five months pregnancy.

Deputy Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the abortion and said Shylet had informed her best friend, Talent Chihobo (29) that she wanted to get rid of the pregnancy.

"From the information we have, it is alleged that Talent tried to stop her friend from terminating the pregnancy fearing for her life. She asked her to inform her boyfriend since many people in the neighborhood were aware of her state.

"Shylet told her that she did not know the person responsible for her pregnancy since she had slept with all her three boyfriends without protection.

"She also informed Talent that she had made up her mind since the man whom she thought would accept responsibility of the pregnancy had rejected her. She told her friend that she did not want to take care of the baby alone and that it was better for her to die than to keep the pregnancy," said Asst Insp Chananda.

It is alleged that on the same day at around 5pm, Talent visited Shylet and an unpleasant smell come out of her room.

She asked her to stand up, but she failed saying she felt tired.

Talent searched the room and found a bucket full of blood behind the door. Shylet begged her not to tell anyone about the abortion, but to tell people that she had a miscarriage.

Talent told her that she did not want to be involved in her scandals and she rushed home to inform her husband Washington Gwarada (35) who made a police report.

Police attended the scene and recovered a fetus which was wrapped in a cloth under her bed.

"Those in sexual relationships should use protection to avoid unwanted pregnancies. At the same time, the general public should know that unlawful termination of pregnancy is a criminal offence.

People should not fear responsibility rather they should seek assistance," said Asst Insp Chananda.
