The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says the good working relations among law enforcement authorities in the region has improved as the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation Organisation (SARPCCO) has facilitated joint operations which have helped reduce crime.
ZRP Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri, who was addressing Namibian officers who are in the country for a VIP protection training programme, said such interactions create mutual benefits in the fight against crime.
"It is within SARPCCO that the police have been able to interact, exchange training programmes as well as undertake joint operations against cross border crimes," he said.
"The role of VIP Protection requires officers with the highest level of integrity, loyalty and commitment. The knowledge and identification with your country's history is part of the measure of your loyalty and love for your country," he told the Namibian delegation.
He reminded the officers that the VIP Protection Unit requires officers of high integrity and dignity.
The VIP Protection Unit specialises in the protection of government officials.
In 2007, Zimbabwe trained another group of police officers from Namibia on a similar programme.
