Zanu-PF party on Tuesday could not confirm nor deny reports that the country's vice president Joice Mujuru has tendered her resignation to President Robert Mugabe, News24 reported.
Reports on Monday claimed Mujuru had quit, with ZimEye saying however that Mugabe had turned down the resignation.
A Zanu-PF source, who preferred to remain anonymous, could not confirm the reports to News24, saying that Mujuru was currently the acting president after Mugabe left the country to attend the late Zambian president Michael Sata's funeral.
"She [Mujuru] is acting president right now and therefore, that sort of claim doesn't make sense to me," said the source.
Efforts to get a comment from the minister of information, Jonathan Moyo, were fruitless as his phone went silent.
Zanu-PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo told News24 to phone later.
Zanu-PF is currently embroiled in a succession battle that has torn the party apart.
