POPULAR Harare-based wheel spinner, Allan Kaseke, popularly known in the entertainment industry as DJ Darkman, was on Sunday found dead at Mutare's popular drinking spot, Flavour Town (Night Shift) situated in Mutare's CBD.
Kaseke who reportedly suffered from fits was found dead in the DJs' changing room. According to online sources, a seizure, also known as a fit, is caused by a disturbance in the electrical activity of the brain, which can be due to conditions such as epilepsy. A person having a seizure may not show any obvious symptoms, but in serious cases they may lose consciousness or experience convulsions.
"Allan had sold a PA system to the person currently running affairs at Flavour Town and he had been called to connect the system and probably had a temporary stint at the joint that night. We learnt about his death the following morning. We are deeply saddened by his untimely death. He was an entertainer par excellence. He usually visited
Mutare to entertain music lovers and we must say the entertainment industry has been robbed of a talented disc jockey," said entertainment consultant and DJ Darkman's colleague, Obey "Big Fish" Hove.
Night Shift proprietor, Isaac Chakonda, said: "Someone is leasing that bar so I can't tell you much. But a DJ was found dead in the changing room. You can contact the police for more details."
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesman, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda, said there were yet to get finer details to ascertain his tragic death.
"I will come back to you with finer details. For now I can neither confirm nor deny the incident," said Asst Insp Chananda.
In a statement, the Disc Jockeys Association of Zimbabwe (Djaz) said: "We would like to express and convey our sincere condolences towards the passing on of DJ Darkman. We are greatly saddened by his untimely death and we extend our deepest sympathies to his family, relatives and friends. A memory never dies, but is cherished. Go well DJ."
Celebrated local entertainer, DJ Ranga, said Allan's unexpected departure came at a time when entertainment was playing a big role in unifying people.
"Its so sad he is gone so soon. He died at the time we needed him most. Music is a unifier and he was playing a big role in bringing people together. This is a big blow and may his soul rest in peace. We will continue with the legacy he left," he said.
Various artistes conveyed their condolence messages on producer Eddy "Nitredy" Dhliwayo's Facebook wall on Monday morning after he dropped the message at 10.39am.
"Hii, Nitredy you can't be serious. So sad hey," said multi-award winning love ballads diva, Cindy Munyavi.
