The bungling Zanu PF led municipality of Gwanda has again courted controversy by giving Matabeleland South Provincial affairs minister Abedinico Ncube almost a year to pay $5000 being the price tag for a four roomed house which he acquired from council under a dubious deal.
The house which initially cost $13 000 was sold for $5000 at the behest of Local government minister Ignatius Chombo after $8000 was deducted in rentals because Ncube had previously occupied the house for almost two decades.
Although the amount was initially meant to be paid in full the Zanu PF led council reportedly decided to reverse the decision and gave Ncube ten months to settle the amount.
Ncube is a close ally of housing committee chairman councilor Thulani Moyo. This means Ncube who already has a house in Jacaranda suburb were he is staying will pay $500 monthly, already he has leased the house to some tenants for an unknown fee.
Ironically the municipality has been facing a financial crisis that has virtually brought service delivery to a standstill The town is faced with erratic water supplies, uncollected garbage and potholes that have made driving a nightmarish experience.
