Giant mobile  phone operator Econet says it has successfully upgraded its Ecocash platform although users are having challenges to transact.

Econet announced that week that it was carrying out major upgrades on its Ecocash and shut down the platform on Saturday for 24 hours.

However, after opening Ecocash on Sunday night, users experienced difficulties transacting while other options like buying data through the platform were no longer there.

Cassava Smartech Zimbabwe chief executive officer Eddie Chibi said the mobile operator had migrated Ecocash to a secure platform.

"We successfully implemented the planned upgrade of ecocash to a new, more secure platform and would like to thank our valued customers for their patience over this period," he said.

Chibi called for patience as Ecocash stabilises.

"We are now dealing with post stability issues to optimise the availability of various Ecocash services across the new platform, and once again request our customers to bear with us as this may result in intermittent service," he said.

Cassava Smartech Zimbabwe is a branch of Econet and parent company of Ecocash.
Between Saturday and Monday, illegal forex dealers were stranded as they rely on Ecocash to effect their transactions.
