FIFTEEN Muzarabani villagers from Muringazuva village in ward 8 allegedly stole builders' water which was in a drum used for construction before drinking it and got seven others hospitalised due to contamination.

Ward 8 councillor Norman Chizenga (ZANU PF) confirmed the incident that occurred last week and said seven people are still admitted at St Albert's mission hospital while 8 are still complaining of stomach problems as water shortages hit Muzarabani hard.

"Due to acute water shortages in Muzarabani about 15 people unlawfully took builders' water and which was in a drum and shared it for drinking without realising that the water was contaminated and they all got sick seven were serious and were rushed to St Alberts where they are receiving treatment while the remaining eight are still complaining of stomach problems," said Chizenga.

The councillor said water borne diseases are bound to spread as many people are drinking water straight from Musengezi River.
"We no longer remember when we last had our tap water and due to unavailability of boreholes our people are fetching drinking water straight from the dam and that is very dangerous as water borne diseases are bound to spread quickly," he said

Meanwhile, the councillor implored Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) to supply electricity regularly to allow Zimbabwe Water National Authority (ZINWA) to pump water into their taps.

"The challenge is ZESA, they are letting us down by serious power cuts because ZINWA is failing to pump water into our taps so our appeal is for them   to give us electricity which will help us get tapped water."
