The police are yet to arrest assassins who raided a business man's house in Maphisa, Matabeleland South on Tuesday morning before fatally shooting him and making off without taking anything.

Tapson Ncube a businessman with strong links to criminal cartels in South Africa specialising on armed robberies was killed in what close family members have described as a revenge assassination.

In a statement on Wednesday, the police said they were still tracking the assassins.

Police in Maphisa are investigating a case of murder where an intruder poisoned 3 dogs and broke into the complainant's house. Whilst inside the house he attempted to break into the bedroom where the complainant was sleeping but got some resistance as the complainant had been awaken by his movements," said the police.

"The accused then fired 6 shots through the closed bedroom door using an unknown firearm. The complainant returned fire using his firearm and the accused fled from the scene. Unfortunately, the complainant sustained some injuries and he died on the spot. Investigations are in progress to arrest the accused person."

Politically, Ncube, who had interests in mining, transport and retail and also a soccer team benefactor, was linked to Zanu-PF having taken part in the party's primary elections in the run up to the 2018 elections.
